McCain Shows Leadership on Georgia

How are those Duke boys ever gonna get out of this one?

With the Russian invasion of Georgia, John McCain has come out swinging and it looks like he’s hit a homerun.  Not only did he correctly identify Vladimir Putin as being Russian this time, but his call for U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to travel to Europe “to establish a common Euro-Atlantic position aimed at ending the war and supporting the independence of Georgia.”

Fortunately, the last 8 years have taught Europe the value of following the US lead on foreign policy issues and I have no doubt that Secretary of State Rice will have no trouble uniting the Europeans behind us.  McCain ruled out direct negotiation with Russia.  “We hear talk of a meeting with the Russian leadership offered up as if it were some sudden inspiration, a bold new idea that somehow nobody has ever thought of before,” McCain said, seeming to mock Obama’s plan. “Yet it’s hard to see what such a summit with President Medvedev  would actually gain.”

McCain favored condemnation and threats of war to convince Russia that we mean business.  Mccain said that if elected he would push to exclude Russia from the G8 and invite George into NATO.  He also moved Russia up to the number 4 spot of potential wars ahead of North Korea and behind Iran.
