Sarah Palin Victim of Gotcha Journalism

with 4 comments

Sarah Palin came under a lot of heat this weak after a reporter caught her telling a voter that she’d go into Pakistan if necessary to defeat al-qaeda.  As you may remember from the debate last Friday, Pakistan is one of the few countries that John McCain does not want to go to war with.  in recent weeks the country has been in the news for shooting at our troops and airplanes.

Speaking to Katie Couric, John McCain denounced gotcha journalism or the tactic where reporters wait for a candidate to say something questionable so that they can broadcast it on the news.  Calling the incident a “gotcha soundbite” McCain dismissed the statement.  Palin went on to make fun of the voter who asked her about Pakistan by doing a spot on impersonation.

I decry this horrible gotcha journalism which is completely different from the comments that Palin has taken out of context about Obama saying that people in Pennsylvania cling to their guns and their religion.  We cannot simply record the things that candidates say to voters and treat them as the candidate’s actual opinion or position.  Candidates must be allowed to lie to voters without fear of being recorded.  It is what our system of government is built on.

  1. That’s right. Sarah Palin won’t be beaten by these journalist scumbags. They can ask her all the silly questions they want. America KNOWS the true Sarah Palin. Sarah IS AMERICA!!!!!

You know… they can keep laughing with all their jokes from New York, but Sarah Palin keeps roping in the endorsements anyway. The latest ones come from Chuck and Sally Heath. See, what these elitists seem to fail to understand is that Sarah Palin is a human interest story. After watching all the conflict and crisis in America today, sometimes you gotta just kick back and take in some empty calories. And you know what? Sarah Palin delivers.

So to all those naysayers and doomsayers and critics out there that can do what they want because it’s a free country, Sarah Palin is just going to be Sarah Palin and take on her next challenge:

  2. I can’t tell if this post is so laden with irony that the first commenter just didn’t pick it up, or if poster actually wants a government that is based on Politicians to cut and edit the offensive and idiotic words that come out of their mouths into something more palatable… So, to set the record straight, it is most certainly *not* Gotcha Journalism to ask a Vice Presidential candidate what newspapers she reads or details about her opinions of the highest court in our country! Those are just questions *ANY* responsible citizen would like answers to before being asked to elect a presidential ticket.

    I has reeding!

  3. First poster was being just a tad facetious I believe. 2nd poster missed it I believe. That said, I also believe Sarah was a huge victim of gotcha journalism, so much so that one network had to apologize because it came out that it was so blatant and they actually had themselves backed into a corner. When the great B.O. made a blunder such as the “57” states it was simply because he was “tired”. It was pretty obvious the cards (and the media) were stacked against her.

  4. Yeah–you never heard about it in the media when Obama kept referring to Czechoslovakia or calling Putin the head of Germany. When he said he wanted to be America’s greatest enemy or contradicted his own economic positions you never heard about it on the news like you did when McCain did those things.
