McCain Declares Victory in Michigan

with 5 comments

With more and more Michiganders flocking to the maverick message of John McCain and Sarah Palin, the McCain campaign declared victory in the wolverine state.  With a commanding lead and the White House looking like a certainty, the McCain campaign has closed up its Michigan campaign offices so that campaign workers could be moved to other states to spread the McCain magic.

Some may see McCain’s abandonment of Michigan as risky, but I see this as just the sort of maverick behavior we’ve come to expect from the silver headed warrior.  An unnamed spokesman for the McCain campaign was quoted as saying, “Now that the Wall Street crisis is over, John is suspending his campaign in Michigan until the crisis with the American auotomotive industry is over.  It was an easy choice to make.  John is all about putting country first and we have Michigan in the bag.”

The McCain adviser stressed that, “If we win FL, MO, NC, VA, IN and OH — all states Republicans have won for decades — that puts us at 260 electoral votes,” the adviser said in an e-mail. “We need to find 10 electoral votes from CO, NV, NM, NH, MN, WI, and PA. Frankly, we have an easier map than Obama. He’s on the defense.”

Meanwhile, Obama’s campaign has struggled to find an audience for his policy of big taxes and rampant homosexuality.  He has been closing campaign offices in important states like North Dakota and Alaska believing them to be lost causes.

Republicans Understand the Value of the Vote

with 4 comments

The most powerful thing in our country is one determined man (or woman now) and a ballot.  While the Democrat party seems to pay little attention to this, the Republicans respect this most important of all rights.  I am overwhelmed with emotion when I see my party proudly moving to protect the sanctity of the ballot box by remaining ever vigilant of voter fraud.

In Michigan, the Republicans have been using a list of foreclosures and challenging any names on the list who attempt to vote.  This is actually closer to the original concept of the founding fathers who wished to reserve the right to vote to proprty holders.

In Virginia, Republicans have warned college students at Virginia Tech about the dangers of voting.  Doing your civic responsibility is great, but you wouldn’t want to lose your college scholarship over it.  Would you?  It actually turns out that the law doesn’t work that way, but hey better safe than sorry right?

In Florida, a lawsuit allows the state to start fining voter registration groups who don’t submit voter registration applications within 10 days and before pre-election deadlines or else face fines.  A federal judge in Miami last month rejected a legal challenge from the League of Women Voters of Florida and other groups that conduct registration drives.

At least one of our parties still cares about the integrity of the voting process.  I urge the Democrats to give up their attempts to register people who have no business voting and compete honestly for the votes of more established and successful white voters with a long record of care for this country.

Gerald Ford

Ford dreamt of the weightlessness of space where he would trip less.

Ford dreamt of the weightlessness of space where he would trip less.

Hello from Grand Rapids, Michigan.  We saw the Ford Museum today and it was a bit dull.  Too much about unity and parties coming together.  I wish there had been more on Ford’s big accomplishment pardoning Nixon to help unite a divided country.  There was a lot to admire in Ford, but he’s not one of my favorites.  I’m really looking forward to making it to Iowa tomorrow and seeing Hoover’s Museum.

Somebody had asked before about my travelling companion.   Jim is a friend of mine going back to our college days in the Young Republicans.  He’s been going through a tough time since he caught his son watching “Dancing with the Stars”.  We’ve talked about taking the boy on the road next year to man up the little tinkerbelle, but in the meantime I’ve been trying to counsel Jim father to father.  Tomorrow is going to be our last big Presidential Library.  Even though this is costing us a pretty penny at about 11 miles to the gallon highway-this is something every American should do.

Clinton’s Surprising Michigan Collapse

with one comment

In the Michigan primary, Hillary Clinton devestated Barrack Obama by taking 55% of the votes on January 15th.  Obama did so poorly that his name wasn’t even included on the ballot.  Today the Democrat Rules Committee will be meeting to decide how many of Michigan’s delegates should be seated and how many should go to each candidate.

What is astoninishing is Clinton’s recent Michigan collapse.  It is possible that as her name was the only one on the ballot she took Michigan’s support for granted, but the newest numbers show that Obama’s support has grown by over 40%.  According to the latest Rasmussen Poll shows McCain beating Obama in the state 43-42 and with a 45-42 lead over Clinton.   Obama is viewed favorably by 50% of the state’s voters compared to 47% for Clinton.  48% of Michigan votes believe Obama is the stronger candidate while 41% believe Clinton in.

So the big question remains what happenned?  Senator Clinton’s collapse from the primary where she so thoroughly demolished undeclared led myself and many others to believe she was untouchable in Michigan.
